Transform Dairy Net (TDN) has announced an upcoming webinar titled ‘Milking in CCC Systems: Science and Practice’, which is scheduled for 7 May. This session will bring together researchers and practitioners to explore the science and practice of milking in cow-calf contact (CCC) systems. Topics will include milk ejection physiology and stimulation, robotic milking, and real-world farm experiences.
The event will be chaired by Kerstin Barth and will feature four experts: Sabine Ferneborg, Rupert Bruckmaier, Julia Rell and Katharina Zipp. TDN is pleased to welcome Rupert Bruckmaier, Professor Emeritus at the University of Bern, who has devoted many years to studying the physiology and endocrinology of dairy cows and other ruminants. Professor Bruckmaier’s work focuses specifically on oxytocin release and milk ejection. In his presentation, he will cover the basic principles of milk ejection, emphasise its importance, explain what disturbed milk ejection entails and discuss factors that could potentially lead to improved milk ejection.
The webinar will also feature Julia Rell, a scientist from the Centre for Dam–Calf Contact Rearing in Switzerland. Her research explores various aspects of dam–calf contact systems in dairy production, including milkability and the crucial interaction between calf suckling and machine milking. Julia will introduce key results and learnings derived from a comprehensive study that combined survey data with detailed on-farm measurements collected from Swiss dam-calf contact (DCC) farms.
The webinar is scheduled for 7 May, running from 13:00 to 14:30 CEST. To secure your place and register for the session, please follow this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/mtWkZ7VgTXOPxHY9ozDNJA#/registration
